The Icelandic Writers’ Union Calls for Respect of Authors’ Rights in Húsó

The Icelandic Writers’ Union (RSÍ) sent a letter on 17 November of 2025 to the Director General of RÚV and to the production company Glassriver, stating that the lack of name attribution violates copyright and moral rights. RSÍ formally requests that my name and my pseudonym be included in all contexts where Húsó is shown, nominated, or discussed.

No response has been received.

The production company Glassriver has acknowledged in written correspondence that correct author credit and name attribution (creator and writer, under my name together with my pseudonym) is a feasible correction.

I have not been able to accept settlement drafts that made such corrections conditional on burdensome silence clauses and provisions stating that the agreement would be made “without obligation.” The right to name attribution is independent of such contractual terms.

RÚV, as the principal funder and broadcaster, and Glassriver, as the producer, have a duty to respect authors’ rights regardless of whether a settlement is reached.

I therefore demand that RÚV and Glassriver publicly correct the author credit and name attribution everywhere incorrect or incomplete credit has appeared, including on ruv.is, as well as in international coverage, nominations, and databases, without delay.

This is my statutory right as an originator and one of the authors of Húsó.

I should not be forced into a prolonged and costly court case to secure basic rights in a publicly funded project.

I have been fighting this for over two years and would very much like to be able to devote my energy and resources to something more constructive.
